Week's End Report - March 6, 2015

Tip of the Week!

  • In order to teach online, you must first successfully complete the IVYC101 online certification course. IVYC101 is a 6-week, online-only certification course. The course requires a time commitment of approximately 6-10 hours per week and must be completed before you can teach a course online.
  • To become online certified prior to the beginning of the summer semester, you may sign up for one of the following sections:
    • March 23rd - May 4th
    • April 6th - May 18th
    • April 20th - June 1st
  • To sign up for an IVYC101, follow the directions on our website: http://bit.ly/idc-trainingportal

New Resources

Updates from OTC meeting

  • This summer a Getting Started webinar will be held for faculty. This webinar will help get everyone prepped for the semester.
  • The online course syllabus template will be changing effective fall 2015. For those of you teaching statewide online courses, these changes will be in your course when you get it so you won’t need to do anything (because old syllabi from previous semesters should never be reused!) For those of you teaching regional online courses we will work with the developers to get these changes made (because old syllabi from previous semesters should never be reused!)
  • Enrollment loading process will be changing, probably next week. Will result in users being loaded into Blackboard far faster than was previously possible.
  • GoToMeeting will be getting a new user interface. The changes will be minor and will not change the way the tool functions.
  • New policy dictates that courses will remain available to faculty and students for two years. After this time, the course will be archived and no longer available in Blackboard (even for OTCs.) In order to access anything from the course, the archive will need to be retrieved which will take approximately seven days.
  • IVYC101 will be changing. There will be six modules, four self-paced, two instructor-led, followed by a semester of mentoring. Instructors will receive a badge for completing the modules, but will not be certified to teach online until they have successfully completed the semester of mentoring. More details to come!
  • A new set of IVYT courses will become available soon. Faculty can complete these courses to earn badges.
