Week's End Report - March 27, 2015

Tip of the Week!

  • Did you know you can use the “home” icon in the upper left corner of Blackboard to navigate between courses? Did you know that using this icon to switch between courses will take you to the exact same spot in the next course?
  • For example, if I’m checking my Course Messages in my CINS101-00E section, I can click on the “home” icon, select my CINS101-00D section and be taken directly to the Course Messages in that course.

Non-Attendance Deadline

  • Attendance deadline for no-show withdraw was Thursday, March 19th. Any student who did not participate by midnight on that date should have been dropped for non-attendance (unless we have notified you that they are an ICN student)
  • The deadline for reporting non-attending students through Banner was Tuesday, March 24th
  • If you have a student in your course who has not participated but you did not drop them for non-attendance, please contact the Registrar’s office

Blackboard

  • Next week C4IT will begin loading summer courses into Blackboard
  • Instructor loading will begin on April 27th (your school must put you into the course in Banner first)
  • Please remember that you will not show up in your course in Blackboard until approximately 36 hours after your school has loaded you into the course in Banner. Unfortunately there is no workaround for this
  • Program chairs can request access to the Self-Enroll module, which will allow you to enroll and unenroll from courses at will

GoToMeeting Training Opportunities

Systems Maintenance

  • Banner will be down from 6:00-11:00 am on Sunday, March 29th

    • Resources - includes….
      • Getting Started - contains course setup checklists with all the information you need to set up your course

      • Blackboard 9.1 for Faculty - current documentation available on Blackboard
      • Training Portal - information about registering for BBRD101 and IVYC101 courses

IncludED Reminder

  • IncludED course content, in accordance with the agreement between Follett and Ivy Tech, is not under any circumstances to be copied in any form or part by anyone outside of C4IT
  • If you are teaching an IncludED course, you may not copy any part of it into any other course (even if the other course is IncludED)
  • If you need IncludED content, please contact the IDC and we will arrange to have your content loaded for you (the course must be coded in the system as an IncludED course)

Week's End Report - March 6, 2015

Tip of the Week!

  • In order to teach online, you must first successfully complete the IVYC101 online certification course. IVYC101 is a 6-week, online-only certification course. The course requires a time commitment of approximately 6-10 hours per week and must be completed before you can teach a course online.
  • To become online certified prior to the beginning of the summer semester, you may sign up for one of the following sections:
    • March 23rd - May 4th
    • April 6th - May 18th
    • April 20th - June 1st
  • To sign up for an IVYC101, follow the directions on our website: http://bit.ly/idc-trainingportal

New Resources

Updates from OTC meeting

  • This summer a Getting Started webinar will be held for faculty. This webinar will help get everyone prepped for the semester.
  • The online course syllabus template will be changing effective fall 2015. For those of you teaching statewide online courses, these changes will be in your course when you get it so you won’t need to do anything (because old syllabi from previous semesters should never be reused!) For those of you teaching regional online courses we will work with the developers to get these changes made (because old syllabi from previous semesters should never be reused!)
  • Enrollment loading process will be changing, probably next week. Will result in users being loaded into Blackboard far faster than was previously possible.
  • GoToMeeting will be getting a new user interface. The changes will be minor and will not change the way the tool functions.
  • New policy dictates that courses will remain available to faculty and students for two years. After this time, the course will be archived and no longer available in Blackboard (even for OTCs.) In order to access anything from the course, the archive will need to be retrieved which will take approximately seven days.
  • IVYC101 will be changing. There will be six modules, four self-paced, two instructor-led, followed by a semester of mentoring. Instructors will receive a badge for completing the modules, but will not be certified to teach online until they have successfully completed the semester of mentoring. More details to come!
  • A new set of IVYT courses will become available soon. Faculty can complete these courses to earn badges.
